By doing an apprenticeship you can still earn money and build up your skills and experience, in your chosen career whilst working towards recognised qualifications with Skills Initiatives.

The Youth apprenticeship Frame work is made up of four parts:
• ABC level 2 NVQ in Youth work
• Key Skills to Level 2.
• Technical Certificates: ABC Level 2 Certificate in youth Work.
• Employer directed elements

Youth Apprenticeship programme.

On the job training towards your NVQ – this will happen whilst you are at work.

• Job Skills – assessing skill gaps within your job and setting training so that these gaps can be filled and you can become more competent at work.

• NVQ Portfolio – This is evidence of how you are competent to do your job. This evidence will be collected, organised and built into a comprehensive portfolio.

Key Skills

• Application of number – how to use numbers in your job
• Communication – Developing you skills of communicating with your work colleagues in a professional and acceptable way.
• ICT – incorporating the use ICT in your work place and making sure you can use it properly to do your job.
• Working with Others
• Improving own learning .
• Problem solving.

Technical Certificate

• This is the underpinning knowledge for each NVQ – the essential information that you will need to do your job. Although it is part of your NVQ it is awarded separately, so that some people can just gain their technical certificate but would not have the NVQ or full apprenticeship.
The length of each apprenticeship programme is dictated by when you start and what skills you may already have within the industry you work in. You will be assessed at the start of your programme and timescales will be agreed accordingly. Apprenticeships, depending on the level you start and finish at, can last up to 15 months.

Support

Skills Initiatives will support both yourself and your employer through the length of your apprenticeship programme. They will conduct visits and assess work to help you through your apprenticeship framework. Skills initiatives ICT facilities are also open to all students and extra personal support is always on hand.

Pre – Apprenticeship Induction.

All successful applicants will undertake an initial Induction period of between 6 to 8 weeks. This will be made up of time based in the Skills Initiative base and placement with youth summer projects.
This is aimed at providing individuals with the necessary foundation skills to work effectively in a new environment

The content will include topics such as Health and safety, First aid, Child Protection, Drugs awareness, ICT in the workplace and Basic skills in Youth work as well as undertaking work towards the necessary key skills levels in the youth Apprenticeship Framework.

Our trainers and assessors have backgrounds in Youth work, and we maintain very close relationships with local employers in the statutory and voluntary sector.

We strive to deliver equal opportunities for all learners, whatever their age or background, providing them with worthwhile skills and training sought by employers.

And, as an ABC and NVQ centre, we can help learners get the qualifications they need, wherever they are.

Our programme is focused on training and developing people for successful careers through a variety of flexible programmes. We provide individual assessments to see which training is most suitable.

• a 200 word statement covering how your participation will have an impact on your role.

• a letter of support is required from your Line Manager, Management Committee or Trustees stating that they will support your attendance, and provide appropriate supervision whilst on the programme.

• selection process will be undertaken by course tutor, members of HYTC and IYS.

• duration of programme 1 year, starting in September 08.

• times and venue to be confirmed.

entry requirements:

• a 500 word statement covering how your participation in the Management Programme will have an impact on your organisation, its deployment of resources and on the young people with whom you work.

• a letter of support is required from your Line Manager, Management Committee or Trustees stating that they will support your attendance, and provide appropriate supervision whilst on the programme.

• selection process will be undertaken by course tutor, members of HYTC and IYS.
